How It Started

Voices On the Inside is a project that was created as an intentional expression of the urgent need for an understanding of the humanity of incarcerated women in the face of a dehumanizing carceral system.

Meet the Artists

This project would not be complete without introducing the incredible women who made it possible.

In a society that often silences the voices of women, and particularly those women who are experiencing incarceration, it is high time we listen, learn, and understand the experiences, insights, and perspectives they have to offer. We must recognize the immense value and power that lies within their narratives. It is through hearing more from the women directly impacted by incarceration that we can challenge the existing norms, break down barriers, and foster true equality.

As we listen and engage with the voices of these women, we gain not only a greater understanding of their unique experiences but also a broader perspective on the world we inhabit. Their stories challenge preconceived notions, highlight biases, and expose societal injustices that still persist in our modern age. By amplifying their voices, we can embark on a collective journey towards creating a more inclusive, equitable, and compassionate society.

Let us make a conscious effort to hear more from the women involved, both in our immediate circles and in the wider world. Let us provide them with platforms, amplify their voices, and listen intently without interruptions or dismissals. It is by valuing their stories, insights, and opinions that we can pave the way for a future where every individual is valued for their sheer humanity.
