Current Programs

  • Poetic Justice’s in-person writing workshops are typically offered for 6-10 week sessions in women’s prisons and jails. Throughout those weeks, the participants explore therapeutic writing prompts and community building activities. At the end of a session, the participants graduate and receive an anthology of their writing and a graduation certificate.

  • Poetic Justice’s distance learning classes partner a participant from a woman’s prison or jail with an outside volunteer. Through letter writing correspondence, the two writers will share writing prompts as well as personal stories. This programming is typically 12-16 weeks long and concludes with the participants receiving anthologies of their writing and a graduation certificate mailed to them.

  • Poetic Justice’s art programming is offered mostly throughout our summer months with partnerships with local artists and art museums. Participants can choose to either explore visual arts or the art of screenwriting, acting, and producing a short skit. This programming concludes with an art exhibit and performance. Additionally, our California programming offers ongoing yoga classes.

Throughout the class, I was compelled to dive deep and face the pain and darkness I have survived head-on. That’s helped heal wounds I didn’t even realize were still open.
