Give Women a Voice This Season.

Poetic Justice brings poetry and creative writing programs to incarcerated women across the United States. Our classes create space for reflection, connection, and healing through writing, and we are one of the few non-religious, arts-based programs consistently offered to women inside.

We do not tell anyone how to heal. We simply offer a space where women can explore their voice and their story with dignity and support. Your generosity keeps this work alive in every chapter we serve.

This Giving Season, we are not setting a specific dollar goal. Instead, we are trusting our community to give what they can, if they can.

Every gift, no matter the size, helps us keep our programs running and brings hope to women inside.

What Your Donation Makes Possible.

  • Most of our classes run on simple materials. Notebooks we find on sale, loose-leaf paper, wooden pencils, pens, and sometimes special facility-approved supplies. We go through these quickly, and gifts at this level help us keep everyone writing.

  • Our Distance Learning program depends on the mail.

We send in full curriculum packets that cover up to sixteen weeks at a time, and we stay connected with participants as they work through the program.

We also cover the postage for them to mail their writing back to us, along with the cost of the Securus stamps we use to communicate. This gift helps us keep those exchanges going.

  • This helps us cover the materials we use for class, especially during our art-focused session. Participants gets the chance to create a passion project and chooses their own art supplies within this range.

We have seen everything from children’s books to songs, full-body paper mâché pieces, canvas paintings, scrapbooks, drawings, and mixed-media projects.

Gifts at this level give women the chance to use their voice through art and create something that is deeply personal to them.

  • This helps us print anthologies for our classes. Each book typically costs between $5 and $15 to produce, and our class sizes can range from fifteen to thirty-five women.

It also helps us reimburse volunteers who drive long distances to reach facilities that are outside of their area.

  • This amount supports a re-entry journal participant for six weeks. These are women who have been writing with us for a long time inside. Once they come home, we pay them a fair wage to continue sharing their experience as they settle into a new chapter.

“I believe Poetic Justice gives us hope. Hope in ourselves, hope in our state, hope for change, hope for society, hope for the women to overcome where we have been and what we’ve been told we are.”

You are The Reason Poetic Justice Can Keep Showing Up!

Much of our support comes from people who have witnessed the energy in the room firsthand and seen a woman light up as she writes her story. We are also deeply grateful for those who have recently learned about Poetic Justice and have chosen to step in and support this work in whatever way they can. These gifts, big or small, are what keep us going. They keep us grounded, and most importantly, they allow us to show up and offer space for women to be heard.

Poetic Justice would not be what it is today without this kind of support. If it is in your heart this season, we ask you to consider supporting us.
