Become a Volunteer Today!

The work we do would not be possible without the amazing and committed members of our community. Your role as a Poetic Justice Volunteer has a profound impact on the women we serve, and we hope that these women will also have a profound impact on you. Together, we will work to bridge communities, uplift individuals experiencing incarceration, and create spaces for healing.

Poetic Justice began in 2014 with a group of volunteers who showed up weekly at the Tulsa County Jail to create space for writing, reflection, and connection. Since then, the organization has grown, but the foundation of our work remains the same: people showing up for one another through creativity and community.

Our volunteers come from many different backgrounds, including education, nonprofit work, journalism, mental health, government, photography, art, and poetry. What matters most is that volunteers align with our values and approach to this work.

How the Volunteer Process Works

Because many of our programs take place inside correctional facilities, we follow a simple onboarding process:

  1. Submit the Volunteer Interest Form so we can learn a little about you and how you'd like to get involved.

  2. Email the appropriate contact listed below after submitting the form with a short introduction.

  3. Complete the Poetic Justice volunteer training. You will obtain this information after a follow-up with PJ Chapter/Program Leadership.

  4. Complete any required facility training depending on the program you’re interested in.

  5. Join a program when space becomes available.

Our volunteer roles are typically fixed commitments rather than drop-in opportunities. This helps us maintain consistency and build trust with participants.
